This is a record of the sea of clouds on October 18, 2021.

Matsunoyama in Tokamachi, where I live now, is a mountainous area surrounded by mountains, and is very suitable for seeing a sea of clouds. I was fortunate enough to see the sea of clouds again this time, so I will record it here.

As a refresher, let's take a look back at the conditions under which you can see a sea of clouds. The conditions for a sea of clouds are as follow:

  • Pre-dawn to early morning
  • Clear skies during the night

  • No wind
  • Mountainous areas and basins.

It is easy to see the sea of clouds when the following conditions exist. For more details, see here.

It's already autumn weather in Matsunoyama. On October 17, it rained until about 3 p.m., and then stopped at night. According to the past weather forecast information, the precipitation has been 0 mm since 7 pm. At this point, we can say that we were in a humid condition.

After the rainy and humid conditions on the 17th, there was no rainfall on the 18th, and the early morning was cooler, making the weather suitable for cloud seas. The data also showed this.

On the 18th, I was at the Restaurant Jyosu Mori around 6:00am. As I wrote in my previous report, Jyosu-mori is the highest area in the Kurokura area, making it easy to see the sea of clouds. On the day I saw the sea of clouds last time, I saw orangeish clouds around 6:00 a.m.

I also could see the orange-colored sea of clouds illuminated by the morning sun through the gaps in the trees.

This time, I decided to see the sea of clouds from a higher place. I climbed to the top of a mountain called Daishoyama. It was around 7:30 when I reached the top. The sun had already risen and the sky was blue.

Clouds were accumulating as if they were passing between several mountains. If I came here around 6:00, I could see the sea of clouds in a different color. It looks good.
